The Role That David McDonald Plays At OSI Group

David G. McDonald is the second highest executive at OSI Group, LLC, a privately held company located in Illinois. He has been with this company since beginning his professional career and is presently serving as the chief operating officer as well as president. Additionally, he is the chairman of the board for the American Meat Institute, a position he has held since November 2015. He is a graduate of Iowa State University where he earned a degree in animal science.

OSI Group is an international company that supplies processed food to its clients. The main products it offers are protein-based like beef patties and sausages but it also offers more complex food such as sandwiches and pizzas. While the company is global in nature David McDonald has said that the company has local management teams in each of the countries in which it has offices and food processing plants. Due to this, he says, his company is in touch with the cultures that OSI Group works in as well as shifting consumer tastes.

In 2016, David McDonald played an instrumental role in OSI Group acquiring a couple of companies. The biggest deal involved OSI Group purchasing a Dutch manufacturer of processed food, Baho Food. According to McDonald, this acquisition led to OSI Group both expanding its role in Europe as well as broadening the products that his company offers. The deal also led to OSI Group acquiring five subsidiaries of Baho Foods which includes a number of processing plants located in both Germany and the Netherlands.

One of the focuses of David McDonald’s role at OSI Group includes maintaining food safety and environmental responsibility. McDonald works with the suppliers of equipment to OSI Group in order to help develop food processing techniques that ensure food quality and safety. This includes such features as the equipment incorporating X-rays that can scan food for foreign particles. He also works with the people and companies that supply OSI Group with the basic ingredients so that they also follow the highest standards of environmental responsibility and food safety.
